Taylor GS Mini-E Special Edition Trans-Black

A Small Guitar With a Big Personality

The Taylor GS Mini-E Special Edition Trans-Black is a seriously cool take on one of Taylor’s most popular compact acoustic guitars. With its solid torrified spruce top, sapele back and sides, and transparent black finish, this GS Mini has a sophisticated, almost vintage-inspired look that sets it apart from the crowd.

The transparent black finish is especially interesting over the torrified spruce top. Rather than looking simply “black,” the spruce takes on a deep, dark brown appearance, allowing just enough of the wood’s character to show through. The result is a classy, understated finish that looks fantastic in person.

And of course, you still get everything that has made the GS Mini so popular: comfortable size, excellent playability, impressive projection, and a tone that is much bigger than its compact dimensions suggest.

✅ Why You’ll Love This Guitar

The GS Mini has always been one of our favorite compact acoustic designs because it doesn’t feel like you’re playing a “small guitar.” It has a surprisingly full voice, excellent balance, and the comfortable proportions make it an easy guitar to pick up and play.

This Special Edition adds something extra: a genuinely distinctive look without being flashy. The Trans-Black finish over torrified spruce gives this GS Mini a rich, sophisticated appearance that looks equally at home on stage, on the couch, or sitting in your guitar collection.

✅ Our Expert Opinion

This is one of those guitars that is simply fun.

The GS Mini is already a fantastic design, but the combination of torrified spruce and the Trans-Black finish gives this particular Special Edition a personality all its own. We really like the way the transparent finish interacts with the torrified spruce. Underneath the black, the top takes on a beautiful dark-brown character that gives the guitar a surprisingly upscale appearance.

It’s a great choice for someone looking for a compact guitar that doesn’t look or feel ordinary.

✅ Tone Profile

The solid torrified spruce top gives this GS Mini a responsive, lively voice with excellent projection for its size. Torrification is a process designed to alter the characteristics of spruce in ways that can give it a more played-in tonal quality and quick response.

The sapele back and sides contribute a balanced, clear voice with a nice combination of warmth and definition.

Expect a guitar that sounds bigger than it looks, with enough projection for playing around the house, songwriting, travel, recording, or plugging into an amplifier or PA.

✅ Tobias Music Insight

We’ve always felt that the GS Mini represents one of Taylor’s smartest guitar designs. It delivers much of the feel, craftsmanship, and playability people associate with Taylor in an incredibly compact package.

This Special Edition takes that concept a step further. The Trans-Black finish is distinctive without being over-the-top, and the torrified spruce underneath gives it a beautiful dark-brown depth that photographs well but is even more impressive in person.

If you’re looking for a GS Mini that is a little different from the usual finishes, this is a particularly cool one.
