The Korg ARP 2600 M Limited is a faithful recreation of arguably the most iconic and recognizable synthesizer of all time, in a compact desktop package. The ARP 2600 has been used in countless records, film scores, TV shows, and game soundtracks from the 1970s through to today, and its sound remains an essential part of the music world. Following the remarkable success of the ARP 2600 FS, Korg introduced the ARP 2600 M — roughly 60% the size of the original — packing all the sound and functionality into a housing that fits any studio or performance setup. Each unit is assembled in Japan from high-grade components in small batches, delivering the majesty and sonic qualities of the original 2600 with a few modern conveniences.
Key elements of its design:
- Authentic Analog Signal Path The 2600 M features the exact same circuitry as the full-size FS reissue — the same analog signal path as the original 2600, from the three multi-function oscillators all the way to the spring reverb and built-in speakers — with high-grade components chosen to match the sound of the original while providing greater reliability.
- Three Multi-Function Oscillators A classic three-oscillator, duophonic, semi-modular analog architecture provides an ample supply of oscillators, envelopes, a filter, and amplifier — all the building blocks of analog synthesis, capable of everything from fat basses to searing leads and iconic sound effects.
- Dual Selectable Filter Models Korg included recreations of both the 4012 and 4072 filter revisions, with a switch for selecting between the early and late filter designs for a wide range of tonal options.
- Semi-Modular Flexibility Maintaining the original layout and workflow, the 2600 M uses a semi-modular, pre-patched signal path — usable without patching a single cable — with the option of using 3.5 mm jacks to defeat the internal routing and define your own patches. Signal levels are fully compatible with Eurorack and most desktop synths (1V/octave).
- Full Vintage Toolkit Beyond the core voice, it includes ring modulation, lag and voltage processors, an envelope follower, an audio preamp (mic/line/guitar level input), a clockable switch, a noise source, a sample-and-hold module, signal inverters, an auxiliary mixer with pan controls, and a set of parallel-wired multi jacks.
- Spring Reverb & Built-In Speakers A spring reverb tank — redesigned to provide the lushness of the full-size model's reverb from a shorter spring — plus a pair of built-in monitor speakers (with defeat when using headphones) make it fully self-contained.
- Modern Conveniences Improvements that make it easier to use include advanced MIDI control, dedicated MIDI DIN & USB (USB-B) inputs plus a USB-A MIDI Host port for class-compliant controllers, normalized voltages, improved attack/release time ratios, ¼" stereo output, and improved smooth sliders.
Reviewing it, Perfect Circuit described the 2600 M as a full-on (but smaller) 2600 — same oscillators, filter, signal routing options, spring reverb, and even the built-in speakers — noting Korg went to great lengths to make sure it matches the original in tone, features, and quality, with each unit assembled in Japan from high-grade components in small batches.
