Fender Jazz Bass JB62 is a Japanese bass guitar, manufactured between 2006 and 2008 at the Dyna Gakki factory. This model is a reissue of the 1962 instrument. This unit features a Daphne Blue finish, on which the previous user applied hand-drawn graphics depicting Japanese emoticons (kaomoji). The instrument features a basswood body and a rosewood fingerboard. After our service work, which included fret polishing, full copper foil shielding of the electronics, and a comprehensive setup, the bass is ready to play.

Body and construction The solid body is made of basswood. The instrument features a Daphne Blue lacquer finish, which has naturally yellowed over the years. Original graphics (Japanese emoticons) applied by the previous owner are present on the lacquer coating. A traditional Bolt-on construction with a classic neck joint is used. In our workshop, the electronics cavities were completely shielded with copper foil, and the lacquer coating went through a cleaning and polishing process.

Neck and ergonomics The maple neck features a slim profile characteristic of the Jazz Bass model. The neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25" radius. The nut width is 38 mm. The Vintage size frets retain about 80% of their original height and underwent a dressing process (polishing) during our service work. The fingerboard surface was cleaned and conditioned with lemon oil and wax.

Sound The instrument is equipped with two factory Fender Japan Vintage single-coil pickups in a passive circuit.

• Characteristics: The combination of a basswood body and standard pickups generates a classic frequency response with clear mids and an appropriately defined attack.

• Dynamics: The passive electronics respond proportionally to articulation strength, maintaining sound selectivity when playing fingerstyle and with a pick. The applied shielding noticeably lowers the circuit's susceptibility to ambient noise.

[1] The use of basswood as the body material was a common standard for base reissues of the JB62 model in Japanese Fender catalogs.

[2] The "S" prefix in the serial number, combined with the "Crafted in Japan" signature located at the base of the neck, accurately dates this instrument to the years 2006–2008 (production carried out by facilities such as Dyna Gakki).

[3] The hand-drawn graphics (kaomoji) visible on the body are a permanent visual modification personalizing the unit, having no effect on the mechanical or acoustic parameters of the instrument.

[4] The service work we performed included: fret polishing, full copper shielding of the electronics cavity, fingerboard conditioning, cleaning of potentiometers and the output jack, and setting the scale length and string action.

Hardware

• Bridge: Vintage Style Spiral Saddle – a steel construction equipped with threaded (spiral) saddles, allowing for an optimal string spacing setup.

• Tuners: Vintage Style Open Gear – open-back mechanisms with classic buttons. The hardware has a natural patina, retaining its mechanical efficiency.

Instrument condition

• Technical condition: The instrument is mechanically and electronically functional after a luthier verification. The truss rod works properly, and the shielded electronics operate without interference.

• Visual condition: The guitar shows clear signs of use. The lacquer has naturally discolored (yellowed) and has chips, dings, and standard scratches. Intentional modifications in the form of painted Japanese emoticons are present on the body. The instrument has no structural wood cracks.

• Setup and Modifications: Fret polishing, full copper foil shielding of the electronics cavities, circuit cleaning (potentiometers, jack), body polishing, fingerboard conditioning, and a full setup of the string action and intonation were performed.
