For Sale is an early 1955 Martin D-18, serial number 141399. I say early because the last number in 1954 is given as 141345. This guitar is about as straight as they get. Extremely open and airing sounding with a super pop in a powerful mid-range. When you hit the G run on this D-18, everyone will know it. All that with that mahogany dryness and clarity. It has been played with some skins n scuffs and Buckle rash on the back but no signs anywhere of abuse or anything more than minor dings. Sitka Spruce top with no cracks and nice and flat with no belly problems. Not even a pick guard crack. Rich, dark, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Mahogany back, sides, and neck. It has just had a complete set up by a Martin authorized luthier including a fresh neck reset and frets polished. This guitar is ready to go for another 71 years. The action is very good with lots of saddle height. No buzzes and the intonation is very good. The neck feels very nice, sorta full with a soft V. There are a couple places on the mahogany back and sides that appear as cracks but under thorough inspection they do not show up on the inside of the guitar, so no glue or cleat is needed. Original Kluson tuners work well, Original Pick guard, nut, Bridge, end pin, frets. The Bridge appears to have never been removed or reglued and is down tight. I believe the only non-original parts to be the new bone saddle and bridge pins. The inside of the guitar, the bridge plate and all braces, is totally original and appears to have never been molested. In summary, this is a great example of a very original D-18. Volume to spare and an extremely powerful mid-range (D and G strings). A bluegrass machine but balanced and clarity with close action for finger picking. Non-original Hard Case. $10,000.00 + shipping.
