miniDSP DDRC-88A, eight-channel Dirac Live room correction. One owner, smoke-free professional studio. One of the pair I mixed and mastered on.

WHAT IT DOES

Dirac Live corrects both frequency response and timing (impulse response). It's mixed-phase correction, so it fixes timing and phase, not just EQ. The Dirac license lives in the hardware and transfers to you free. No subscription, nothing extra to buy.

REAL RESULTS IN MY ROOM

My room is a fully treated 10'x10' box with a slanted ceiling, so correction was much needed. After calibration:

- A 63 Hz bass ring dropped from 0.58 to 0.33 seconds. The low end got tighter, not just flatter.

- An 85 Hz hole filled in completely.

- A 148 Hz dip above my sub crossover went from 13 dB down to 6 dB down.

- Left and right matched closer in the low mids, from 5 dB apart to 3 dB apart.

FLEXIBLE SETUP

- 8 balanced inputs and outputs (green terminal blocks), plus RCA. Works for stereo monitors, monitors with subs, or a full multichannel setup.

- Running a sub? Keep your sub's own crossover and Dirac corrects each side as one full system, timing and phase through the crossover included. That's exactly how mine is set up.

- Measure for one focused listening spot, or a wider area like a couch. I calibrate tight to where my head sits when mixing.

- Holds 4 presets, so you can save different calibrations and compare them. I correct from 540 Hz down and leave the top end natural.

- Set it and forget it once it's calibrated.

GOOD TO KNOW

- Standard 88A. The 88BM bass management add-on is not included.

- Bring your own measurement mic (miniDSP UMIK-1 or UMIK-2) to run Dirac.

- miniDSP unlocks the software downloads for you with the serial number, usually in about 2 working days. I'll send the serial right after purchase.

- The demo video shows this unit in my chain with an Antelope Pure2 and 10MX. Those are not included.
