Rare 1978 Fender Telecaster Custom with Original Black Finish and Rosewood Fretboard

Guitar Collective is pleased to list this 1978 Telecaster Custom ("Keith model") in it's original black finish with rosewood fretboard. It's estimated that less than 10% of Fender Telecaster Custom guitars built during the 1970s came with a rosewood fretboard. Add in that it's also finished in black makes this a very rare combination.

This guitar is listed in good condition due to finish wear and checking and some minor wear on the first 3 frets. It is 100% stock with all original parts and finish with the exception of maybe the pickguard screws (All are flat head not Phillips?) and the strap buttons. The A and high E tuner knobs are slightly bent but work fine.

The original black finish is intact with a lot of checking. The factory shielding and all wiring is intact. The serial number sticker on the back of the pickguard matches the one on headstock. The rosewood board neck is straight and measures .87 in at the first fret and .98 in at the 12th. The neck joint is rock solid with no movement which is important on these 3 bolt models. It actually looks like it's never been off the guitar.

The pickups are well balanced. The Seth Lover pickup (Dated 78) reads 12.39 ohms which is inline with what these should read. The bridge pickup reads 6.15 ohms. The pots date to 1976 week 44.

The guitar plays and sounds fantastic. There are some minor divots in the first few frets but they don't affect play. It weighs 8 lbs on bathroom scale. Comes with the original hard shell case in very good solid condition.
