This all-original 1956 Martin 0-15 sounds super sweet and is set up to play almost like an electric guitar thanks to a recent neck reset and fret dress! Check out the included demo video.
These all-mahogany Martins are just beautiful recording instruments, and their “woody bell” tone can’t really be found in any other model, Martin or otherwise. This particular 0-15 features the “pepperoni” red pickguard that Martin only used for about a year (later ‘56 through ‘57), and as mentioned above, it is entirely original: finish, bridge, bridgeplate, tuners, and so on, making it a somewhat unusual find these days.
I recently had Jack Dillen perform a perfect neck reset and fret dress, so it is playing very well with nice, low action. It is about as easy-playing and responsive as you could hope for! There is a fair amount of finish checking/crazing/aging typical for a guitar this old, and there is some surface wear, but nothing too substantial compared to most other examples I’ve seen from the ‘50s. There is a single glued crack on the back (lower bout), but it is tight and stable. A maple strip “bridgeplate saver” has been added to the original bridgeplate to improve the surface on which the ball ends of the strings are resting (the original bridgeplate had some wear, which is very common). The saddle height is perfect, and this guitar is totally ready to go!
Asking $3,900 (a bit lower on other forums) plus shipping. Comes in a non-original hardshell case.
