Hofner 492 E 12-string (1969)
Spruce top, mahogany back and sides. Rosewood fretboard. It has a large dreadnought-style body with long 64.5 cm scale.
It's very deep, considerably wider at the sides than other models. Rounded shoulders; this would be the last year of production.
Starting in 1969, they began building with the patented Hofner neck-mounting system, which allowed for adjusting the string angle while simultaneously securing the neck.
It has some small dings and scratches in the finish, which is slightly cracked, but no cracks or repairs. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret.
It has a factory-installed Hofner pickup with volume and tone controls. This is one of the best acoustic guitar pickups I've ever heard and is highly sought after by collectors, either in other instruments or as a spare part.
The neck is perfectly straight and very solid, and its design allows for easy playing. It has a blocked truss rod, but it maintains its tuning without bending, which is why it's offered at half price.
It has been fully serviced and adjusted as needed. The frets have been reconditioned and polished. All parts are original.
The guitar tunes well and is extremely comfortable to play.
The action of the 6th string at the 12th fret is less than 2 mm, with no buzz or fret buzz.
The sound and playability of this guitar are truly impressive; it's a great instrument.
