Orange Micro Dark 20W — Open Box / Near New
There’s a reason the Orange Micro Dark has become one of those small heads guitar players keep around even after they’ve built much bigger rigs. It takes up almost no space, plugs into a real cabinet, and delivers the kind of gritty, aggressive Orange character that makes you want to keep turning it up.
This one is an open-box unit in near-new condition, so you’re getting an amp that presents extremely close to new without paying full retail.
At the heart of the Micro Dark is a 12AX7 tube preamp feeding a 20-watt solid-state power section. The result is a compact head that still responds like an amp should. Roll the gain back and you can get crunchy, articulate rhythm tones. Push it harder and it moves quickly into the thick, saturated distortion that makes these amps especially appealing for rock, punk, alternative, hard rock, and heavier music.
The control panel is almost impossible to overthink: Gain, Shape, Volume. That Shape knob is the secret weapon. Turn it one direction for thicker mids and classic rock character; sweep it the other way for a tighter, more scooped and aggressive sound. Three knobs, but a surprising amount of territory.
And unlike a lot of miniature amp heads, the Micro Dark gives you a real buffered effects loop. Run your delay, reverb, chorus, or modulation after the preamp and build an actual pedalboard-based rig around it. The CabSim headphone output also makes it easy to play quietly when firing up a cabinet isn’t an option.
Plug this into a small Orange cabinet and you have a killer compact setup. Put it through a larger cab and suddenly this tiny head feels considerably more serious than its size suggests.
If you’ve been wanting an Orange head but don’t need a giant amp sitting in the room, this is exactly why the Micro Dark makes so much sense. It’s simple, portable, easy to dial in, and has enough attitude that you’ll probably spend more time playing than adjusting settings.
