The 622 is a serious studio-grade gate/expander from Aphex, designed around their Logic Assisted Gate circuitry and VCA 1001 attenuator. It provides extremely precise control over gating and downward expansion while avoiding the clicks and abrupt transitions associated with simpler gates. It was originally a roughly $795 professional processor in the 1990s. 

Each channel provides extensive control over threshold, attack, hold, release, expansion ratio and range, plus a frequency-selective key filter with frequency and bandwidth controls. It can also operate in ducking mode, making it useful for voice-over work and other automatic level-control applications.
