For sale a Very Rare Roger Mayer Rocket FX Mongoose Fuzz – Limited Edition / Autograph Model, hand-built in the UK.
The Mongoose itself dates back to a design Roger Mayer developed in 1985. It is not really a conventional vintage Fuzz Face-style fuzz; it has a much more aggressive, compressed and focused character. Roger Mayer describes the circuit as using both discrete and IC analogue circuitry, with a diode clipping section.
The Mongoose is known for:
- Very thick, saturated fuzz/distortion
- Lots of sustain
- Strong low-end
- A distinctive “cocked wah” / wah-like mid character
- Smooth compression
- Enough definition to work with chords
- Much more modern/aggressive than a traditional Fuzz Face
Roger Mayer specifically designed it for players wanting a fat fuzz with substantial bottom end, and it became popular across rock, metal and other heavier styles.
