A few scratches on the back. See photo gallery for detail.

The Danelectro U2 is one of Danelectro's most recognizable vintage electric guitars. It is a two-pickup, single-cutaway guitar originally introduced in the mid-1950s, with the original U2 production generally dated to 1956–1958. It was also sold in related forms under the Silvertone name.

Key features

• Body: Lightweight Masonite/hardboard construction over a wood frame on the vintage models
• Neck: Bolt-on poplar
• Fingerboard: Brazilian rosewood on original examples
• Scale: 25"
• Frets: Typically 21 on vintage U2s
• Pickups: Two distinctive Danelectro lipstick single-coils
• Controls: Vintage models used separate volume/tone controls and a 3-way pickup selector
• Bridge: Simple adjustable bridge with a rosewood saddle on many original examples
• Construction: Lightweight and somewhat unusual compared with conventional solid-body guitars

What does it sound like?

The lipstick pickups are the defining feature. They produce a bright, jangly, clear and slightly twangy tone that works particularly well for surf rock, rockabilly, blues, garage rock and alternative music. The two pickups on the U2 are wired in series, giving the combined setting a noticeably thicker sound than you might expect from two low-output single-coils.
