For sale is a rare and stunning 1988 Ibanez JEM777SK in Shocking Pink. (Fun fact: Steve Vai personally nicknamed his own stage 777SK "Pink Jewel" during this era).
This guitar is exceptionally well-preserved after resting safely in its bag for nearly four decades (38 years). Finding an example with this level of original vibrant finish and overall originality is remarkably difficult.
Provenance
The original owner was a crew member at David Lee Roth's November 28, 1988 concert at the Palatrussardi in Milan. Having backstage access during the show and being deeply impressed by Steve Vai's performance, he purchased this JEM at a local Milan music store shortly after the concert and kept it until 2025. On February 6, 2025, I purchased the complete package from Jacaranda Guitars in Milan, who handled the consignment sale on behalf of the original owner. I am only the second owner.
Condition
Most surviving examples show significant fading or yellowing of the neon finish. This one does not — it remains vibrant, with the body, neck, and headstock in beautiful condition. As expected for a 38-year-old instrument, there is light, age-related patina, mainly on the hardware. It is not mint or New Old Stock. Please study the detailed photographs, as they are part of the description.
Included Memorabilia
- Original guitar pick handed to the owner backstage by Steve Vai himself at the Milan show
- Original David Lee Roth "Skyscraper European Tour '88" T-shirt
- Copy of the owner's crew/backstage pass from the Milan concert
- Period Italian guitar publication featuring the JEM launch
- Original period-correct Ibanez gig bag
Please Note
This history was provided by Jacaranda Guitars based on the original owner's account. The original 1988 store receipt is no longer present. This guitar is not represented as having been owned or played by Steve Vai; its connection to him is through the crew history and accompanying period items.
Serious inquiries only, please. I have no urgent reason to sell this instrument. It's for the right buyer who knows what's being offered here. The price reflects the current market, as well as the exceptional preservation and historic provenance of this rare JEM. Instruments in this condition are becoming increasingly hard to find with each passing year.
