Fender Vintera II Road Worn Special Edition ’60s Stratocaster – Rosewood – Sonic Blue
A particularly lovely example of Fender’s Vintera II Road Worn ’60s Stratocaster, and one that really captures the look, feel and character of a well-preserved early ’60s Strat.
This is the Limited Edition Road Worn model in Sonic Blue with a slab rosewood fingerboard, and ours is in near-unplayed condition. It has been professionally checked and given a perfect setup, so it feels and plays exactly as it should — effortless, lively and beautifully balanced.
Fender’s factory specification is thoroughly vintage-minded. You get an alder body finished in Road Worn aged nitrocellulose lacquer, a comfortable ’60s “C” shape maple neck, 7.25" radius slab rosewood fingerboard and vintage-tall frets. The electronics are a trio of Fender vintage-style mid-’60s Strat single coils, wired through the traditional five-way switching system.
The Road Worn finish is particularly convincing on these guitars. Fender developed a deliberately subtle ageing process with light checking, gentle wear patterns and a semi-gloss feel, rather than the heavy-handed relic treatment found on some instruments. The result is a Strat that feels wonderfully broken-in while retaining a very clean and desirable appearance.
Tonally, this is classic mid-’60s Strat territory: clear, glassy and articulate, with that unmistakable Fender sparkle and plenty of warmth when you dig in. The vintage-style synchronised tremolo with bent-steel saddles, vintage tuners and parchment/mint-green appointments complete the period-inspired specification.
Ours is a great example of the model — exceptionally clean, very little playing time, beautifully set up and supplied complete with its original Fender black Tolex ’60s-style hard case and all the original paperwork.
A really handsome Sonic Blue Strat, with the rosewood board providing just the right contrast to the aged nitro finish.
