Here we have a very clean and fully original all there Conn ST-6 Strobo-Tuner from the mid-late 1960's. It has the original moveable EV Model 915 Crystal microphone, the power and mike cords are original and in great shape.
Cosmetically a very clean example with light signs of honest wear from being 60 some years old. Used by most of the big name bands back in the day and still used by many groups today.
Comes with an older owners manual that might be a copy and has been cleaned and tested by our tech of 40 years. Fully functional and ready to use.

The C.G. Conn Model ST-6 StroboTuner with its original Electro-Voice 915 crystal microphone is a vintage vacuum-tube-driven stroboscopic tuning device manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana, during the 1960s. This was the go to tuner used by a lot of big touring bands in the late 60''s 70's like Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Stones, Hendrix, etc.
History:
- Origins: C.G. Conn introduced the concept of visual tuning with the large mechanical Stroboconn in 1936.
- The ST-6 Evolution: Developed as a more compact, portable vacuum-tube electronic strobe unit following earlier postwar models like the ST-1, the ST-6 was produced from the late 1950s through the 1960s.
- Cultural Footprint: Highly prized by piano tuners, school band directors, and touring rock technicians (notably used behind the backline for guitar tuning by acts like Led Zeppelin in the 1970s).
- Legacy: Conn manufactured these analog units until selling its strobe tuning division to Peterson Electro-Musical Products in 1985. Serial number 42984 places your specific unit in the mid-to-late 1960s production run.
Specifications:
- Type: Analog electronic stroboscopic tuner
- Power Requirements: 105–120 Volt AC, 60 cycles, ~50 Watts
- Tube Complement (Valves): Uses a 6-tube vacuum circuit comprising:
- 1 x 5879 (pentode audio input/preamp)
- 2 x 6AQ5 (audio/power output stage)
- 1 x 12AU7
- 1 x 12AT7
- 1 x 6X4 (rectifier)
- Indicator Lamps: Neon lamps (such as NE-2H) that flicker in sync with audio input frequencies behind a rotating scanning disc.
- Microphone: Includes a detachable Electro-Voice Model 915 crystal/ceramic microphone designed to clip directly inside the hinged metal lid/front panel storage compartment.
- Enclosure: Bronze/medium-brown splatter-painted metal case with a folding front cover, internal cord/mic storage, and a molded plastic carrying handle.

NOTE: Too cool. We just shipped very recently this summer a 1967 MapleGlo Rickenbacker 6-12 Converter 'comb' guitar to Billy Corigan of Smashing Pumpkins! We also then shipped a vintage 50 watt Marshall head to L.A. studio-touring guitarist extraodinaire, Michael Landau, and 2 vintage guitars to Jack White's organization down in Nashville just a few days before his 50th. birthday! mmm? Add 'The Kentucky Head Hunters' to the list, just sold Greg a cool little 50's Valco tube combo amp!
Gordy's Music has become a Detroit institution! Our shop was used as a filming location for a few films like "Miracle in Motor City" a Christmas movie on Lifetime (featuring Smoky Robinson). We've supplied gear for movies including "Bill & Ted Face The Music" with Keanu Reeves. We've got decades of celebrity customers, including recent visits from Beck, Eric Johnson, and we recently sold Billy Joel's bassist a cool Gibson SG he is in love with. One day a while back Andre 3000 and his group stopped in to browse as they were playing Masonic Temple that night and right after that we sold an old oil can Morley Wah Vibrato pedal to Credence Clearwater Revival's thee John Fogerty!
We are having and have had a lot of fun here at Gordy's Music! I was just remembering about 35 years ago a tour bus pulled up to our little shop, and who rolls right in and hangs out for an hour? Lenny Kravitz and his entire group, right about the same time I was selling many guitars to and chauffeuring around Dee Dee Ramone who had an apartment a block down from my house.
