The Collings D2H Traditional brings a beautifully refined take on the classic square-shouldered dreadnought. There is plenty of depth and low-end authority for full-bodied strumming and vocal accompaniment, but the response remains remarkably clear and focused. That balance is what makes this style of Collings so versatile: it has the projection to hold its own beside banjos and fiddles in a bluegrass setting, yet enough nuance to reward quieter playing at home.
The East Indian rosewood back and sides bring warmth, richness, and plenty of harmonic complexity to the voice, while the Traditional construction gives the guitar a naturally broken-in character. The slightly rounder high end and fuller low mids make chords feel substantial without becoming muddy, and the ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the guitar to respond with an impressive sense of openness. It is the kind of dreadnought that feels lively and familiar almost immediately, with plenty of room to grow as you play it.
The D2H's appointments give the instrument a distinctly elegant Collings look, from the herringbone top purfling and ivoroid binding to the zipper backstrip, diamonds-and-squares fingerboard inlays, and intricate rosette. Gold mother-of-pearl details and custom wood purfling add just the right amount of refinement without distracting from the instrument itself. For players who want the power and authority of a dreadnought with the clarity, responsiveness, and craftsmanship to make every note count, the Collings D2H Traditional is a remarkable choice.
