Gretsch G6134B Black Penguin

One of the most distinctive and iconic models in the Gretsch Professional Collection.

The Black Penguin features an all-black body paired with gold hardware, Gold Sparkle binding and back panels. From the headstock, pickguard, and control knobs to the signature Cadillac “G” Tailpiece, every detail is unmistakably luxurious. Its design carries a strong 1950s American vintage aesthetic, and the presence of the guitar in person is even more impressive than photos can fully capture.

The body is constructed from chambered mahogany with an arched maple top, retaining the clear and immediate response of the Jet series while adding the airy resonance and openness characteristic of Gretsch guitars. Equipped with two Gretsch DynaSonic single-coil pickups, it delivers bright, articulate tones with a tight yet responsive low end. Clean tones are open and transparent without becoming overly sharp, while driven sounds still retain excellent note separation and definition.

An ebony fingerboard with engraved Hump-Block inlays, Grover Imperial tuners, Synchro-Sonic Melita Bridge, and the iconic Gretsch Cadillac “G” Tailpiece complete the premium specifications and classic aesthetic.

Made in Japan in 2006, this guitar is now approximately 20 years old. The gold hardware and armrest show natural oxidation and signs of use, adding just the right amount of vintage character. The body itself remains in overall good condition, while the Gold Sparkle trim and decorative appointments are still exceptionally eye-catching.

This is not one of the more commonly seen Gretsch models. For players looking for a Black Penguin, the distinctive sound of DynaSonic pickups, or a high-end Japanese-made Gretsch that offers both collectability and real-world playability, this is an excellent opportunity.
