Released in 1978, the CS-30L is a monophonic synthesizer consisting of 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs, 2 VCAs, 3 EG units, an LFO, and a 44-key keyboard.
While inheriting the sound engine and circuit design of the legendary gCS-30,h this model is designed for live and studio use, omitting the built-in sequencer while enhancing the LED display and features for live performance (such as foot controls for portamento and sustain).

In terms of functionality, it is a studio-class instrument virtually identical to the CS-30. In addition to the CS-30fs systematic features, it enhances live performance capabilities with LED indicators showing envelope status, as well as foot controls for portamento, sustain, and brilliance. Since it employs a system where VCOs, VCFs, VCAs, and EGs are patched via knob switches, the combinations of sound shapes are practically infinite.

The key difference between the CS-30L and the CS-30 is that, with an even greater emphasis on live playability, it uses LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to indicate which EG is being used for which block?in other words, the EGfs destination. This is particularly effective, for example, when switching between multiple envelope curves one after another while playing.Furthermore, the trigger mode (single or multi) is also indicated by these LEDs. Taking the VCA envelope as an example, single triggering means that pressing the next key during the release of a note will not produce a sound. Multi-triggering, on the other hand, allows a new envelope to start the moment the next key is pressed.
