Up for sale is an absolute powerhouse of early-'80s craftsmanship: a 1982 Gibson Les Paul Custom finished in a gorgeous, vibrant Sunburst. Instruments from this transitional Norlin-era chapter are increasingly coveted for their solid construction, exceptional sustain, and unmistakable rock presence. Featuring the desirable solid mahogany neck, multi-ply binding, and iconic split-diamond headstock inlay, this Custom embodies the premium aesthetic and heavyweight sonic punch that made the model a staple of arena stages throughout the 1980s.
It comes equipped with Gibson’s famously cool flip-out "crank" winding tuners (Gibson/Schaller speed winders), adding both classic period-correct flair and quick-stringing practicality. The guitar has been thoughtfully upgraded with a pair of older, vintage Seymour Duncan humbuckers paired with an added coil-split switch, opening up an incredible array of versatile tones—from thick, searing humbucker sustain with glassy bite to articulate, snappy single-coil chime. The switch tip has been replaced, but the instrument is otherwise all original.
The neck profile feels rock-solid and comfortable in the hand, measuring 1.69 inches wide and 0.85 inches deep at the nut, broadening to 2.04 inches wide and 1.00 inch deep at the 12th fret. The frets are low in the classic "fretless wonder" tradition—they are level, even, and free of notable fret wear, allowing for lightning-fast, ultra-low action across the entire ebony fingerboard. On the scale, it weighs in at an authentic, sustaining 10.25 lbs.
Cosmetically and structurally, the guitar is in great vintage shape. There is a small area of cleanly reglued binding on the upper right side of the headstock that is tight and solid. It comes complete with a non-original Gibson pink-lined hardshell case, which protects the instrument securely and includes the case keys attached to a vintage DeeMark Lee Music store keychain.
This guitar ships promptly, professionally packed, and fully insured.
