I have a 2023 Fender Custom Shop Postmodern Journeyman 1960 Stratocaster here. It comes with its hard shell case and pictured factory goodies. You can open up the picture of the floor traveler in a new window and double click it, and it will enlarge to full size to show you all the factory specifications. This guitar weighs 7 lb 15.5 oz.
Conditionally, it looks gorgeous, with pretty much nothing to describe here.
The body top shows a little bit of guitar pick strumming that organically blends in with the factory light strumming and brushing wear that is part of the relic treatment.
This Journeyman relic treatment I would consider, for the layman, a medium relic. It's not the type of heavy relic where the guitar looks trashed, but it's not the gentle VOS either. It features fine spider web checking throughout the guitar, small little dings that are completely done at the factory to look that way intentionally, and on the body back they have a little bit of an orange peel effect in a small section. Per my scrutiny of this, absolutely none of this is player playwear. This is the look of the factory relic. I've gotten really good over the years at determining this, as I've had over 20 of these.
So any superficial signs of use on this guitar from actual playwear are going to be minimal to the extent that they're almost indiscernible. There is no noteworthy or describable playwear.
The neck looks great as well. You will notice that faded spot on the neck is again factory done, but it is not bare wood. It goes from gloss lacquer to a soft, gently sealed lacquer over that bare spot. That's how Fender does that.
The frets are tall and meaty, showing just faint signs of use. But nothing sinking in or creating a pit or a divot. Just very fine signs of use on the frets.
The setup plays absolutely fantastic. I have given it just a fine tuning, giving it a spring tension adjustment and adjusting the neck relief. The saddles are radiused, so it has a nice modern playability. Just under that 2 mm mark on the bass strings, tapering down to about 1.85 mm on the high E string, which gives it that fast, slinky, easy to play feel. It plays like butter. Everything is stock. The electronics are working perfectly.
So this one easily rates a 9.5/10 and grades as excellent. I found no notable user playwear. It is structurally and sonically sound and plays and sounds phenomenal.
Fender Custom shop guitars in essence sound complex and detailed. It has that frequency rich "alive" feel and sound to it. The opposite of sterility.
This guitar to my ears and finger lives up to it's reputation and it's high expectations. It's a beautifully crafted Strat. And sounds completely different then the regular USA production Strats. The difference if i would try to describe it in tone, would be that the tone has more complexity to it. More layers, more subtle nuances to it. It's the upper echelon of a Strat. And this is a great specimen to be able to find a '23 model looking this sharp.
Note that this listing may come down at any time as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that into your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
