In a particularly competitive market, the Ibanez RGA742EX BAM stands out as a genuine benchmark in its category. With its 7-string configuration, impressive specification and high level of build quality, it delivers the kind of performance normally found on significantly more expensive instruments. At this price point, it is difficult to find anything better: the RGA742EX BAM clearly ranks among — if not as — the best value-for-money 7-string guitars in its class.

Its ergonomic meranti body, combined with the RGA design, offers outstanding comfort whether playing seated or standing. The Black Aurora Burst Matte finish, deep, modern and elegant at the same time, gives the guitar a particularly strong visual identity. The overall look is unmistakably contemporary without becoming excessive, with the distinctive aesthetic that has made Ibanez instruments so popular among players of modern music.

The maple Wizard III neck is naturally one of the major strengths of this RGA742EX. Slim, fast and exceptionally comfortable, it allows the player to take full advantage of everything a 7-string guitar has to offer. Access to all 24 jumbo frets is excellent, while the jatoba fingerboard provides a precise and enjoyable playing feel. Despite the additional scale length and low seventh string, the instrument feels remarkably natural and easy to play. Technical passages, legato, bends, fast runs and complex rhythm parts all flow with impressive ease. This is exactly what a truly modern guitar should do: rather than making playing more demanding, it is designed to make everything feel faster, smoother and more effortless.

On the electronics side, the Quantum pickups are particularly well suited to this philosophy. They deliver a powerful, precise and dynamic sound capable of handling low tunings without sacrificing clarity or definition. The low end remains tight and controlled, the midrange retains excellent presence, and the highs stay articulate even under heavy levels of gain. Fast riffs remain perfectly defined, while lead parts retain enough clarity to cut naturally through a mix. The guitar is also more versatile than one might initially expect and performs very well with clean and crunch tones.

Ultimately, this is an exceptionally impressive 7-string guitar in its price range. It combines exemplary ergonomics, an extremely comfortable neck, a striking finish, electronics perfectly suited to modern styles and, above all, genuine build quality. It delivers a playing experience that goes far beyond what its price might suggest. For anyone looking for a modern, comfortable and high-performance 7-string guitar capable of standing confidently alongside instruments costing considerably more, the RGA742EX BAM is simply an outstanding proposition.
