Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson SG Special in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chipboard case. This vintage SG offers plenty of bark and cut via the original P-90 pickup pair, with a dynamic, touch-sensitive quality and a glassy treble snap. The bridge pickup has more burly midrange growl, while the neck pickup delivers a fat, woody thwack. This SG Special weighs 6lbs 13oz, professionally set up here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

All of the original hardware and plastics are present, with the exception of the upgraded Grover tuners. As this SG hails from the brief window where Gibson was importing cheaper Japanese tuners for some models, the Grovers are a considerable improvement. There is a small hole in the original batwing guard for a removed mini toggle (with no corresponding route in body, as the hole matches the factory wiring channel), and the leads for the pickups have been cleanly spliced.
The original nitro lacquer finish is a rich shade of Cherry, with various scattered minor dings on the body, particularly concentrated along the back lower bout edge, and a bit of very minimal and shallow buckle-related wear on the treble side of the back. There is a small repaired split extending from the edge of the control cavity as pictured, cleanly repaired and difficult to spot with no overspray. The gloss on the neck profile is clean, with a bit of chatter central to the carve behind frets 4-7, worn smooth through play.
The original black chipboard case is included, with functional latches, the original handle, and a Gibson badge on the case pocket.
