1984 Fender Fullerton American Vintage ’57 Stratocaster Reissue 2-Tone Sunburst w/OHC, AVRI, 1957 

Just in! A sublime example of Fender USA’s first take on a reissue of the iconic 1957 Stratocaster. Made at the Fullerton factory, where the original ‘50s Strats were crafted, this 1984 Fender Fullerton American Vintage ’57 Stratocaster Reissue is finished in stunning 2-Tone Sunburst and comes complete with its original Tweed Hardcase.

Dated by the pencil date 9-10-84 at the neck heel, 1378447 pot codes and serial number, this is one hella-clean example and easily one of the nicest currently on the market. It remains all original, aside from what is suspected to be a replacement nut.

True to vintage spec, the guitar features the correct Fullerton body contours, a soft-V profile neck, and Black Bobbin pickups.

The Fullerton era was a brief but hugely important chapter in Fender history, with vintage reissues produced from 1982–84 at the original Fullerton, California factory. Built using the same machinery that produced the legendary ’50s and ’60s Fenders, these guitars marked the birth of Fender’s American Vintage line. With production moving to Corona in 1985, Fullerton reissues are now highly sought after for their rarity, character, and direct connection to Fender’s golden era.

Condition-wise, this is an exceptionally clean example, with no breaks or repairs.

Cosmetically, it presents beautifully, with only the odd extremely light indentation, some natural lacquer checking, and a small amount of finish chipping around the bass side where the neck meets the body, as pictured.

The neck and fretboard are equally impressive, displaying very little playwear. On close inspection, there is some minor lacquer shrinkage around the frets and light crazing, both to be expected from an ageing nitro-finished maple neck. The finish has also naturally deepened to a warm amber hue.

The all-stock, untouched electronics function flawlessly, with all three pickups sounding fantastic — lively, articulate and delivering plenty of classic Strat chime, sparkle and output.

This one weighs in at 7.5lbs.
