n good contain especially for its age. Healthy battery and working aftertouch. Have no floppy disks so not sure the Disk drive still works , however they can be changed if needed for a Gotek USB. Also sounds etc can be loaded via Midi Sysex and a computer with midi interface. Has tons of sounds onboard due to the E! Expansion.

Has US 110v power but coms with a 240 - 110 transformer. So can be used in many countries.

Pick up from London W2. I would need to find a suitable flight case to ship so message me.

The Yamaha DX7 IIFD is a flagship digital FM synthesizer released in 1986, representing an enhanced iteration of the original DX7 with superior sound quality, expanded memory, and robust hardware features.

It distinguishes itself from its sibling, the DX7IID, by including a built-in 3.5-inch floppy disk drive for extensive patch storage, while both models share a sturdier metal chassis and improved 16-bit digital circuitry that reduces internal noise compared to the original 12-bit DX7.
Key technical and functional upgrades include:• Polyphony and Timbrality: Offers 16-voice polyphony (8 voices in Dual mode) and supports bi-timbral operation, allowing users to split or layer two distinct voices simultaneously.
• Memory: Doubles internal patch memory to 64 voices and 32 performance memories, with the FD variant adding roughly 1MB of floppy disk storage for thousands of additional sounds.
• Interface and Controls: Features a larger backlit LCD display, durable push-button keys (replacing the original's membrane switches), and two real-time sliders for dynamic parameter control.
• Sound Engine: Retains the classic six-operator FM synthesis engine but improves DAC resolution for cleaner electric pianos, bells, and evolving pads, while maintaining full compatibility with original DX7 presets.

The Grey Matter E! is a rare internal enhancement board designed specifically for the Yamaha DX7II (including IID and IIFD models) and the DX7S.  Released in the late 1980s by Grey Matter Response, it transforms the synthesizer into a powerful multitimbral workstation by unlocking capabilities inherent in the DX7II's sound chip but inaccessible via the stock operating system.

The E! expansion significantly upgrades the DX7II's memory and MIDI functionality. It quadruples the internal RAM, allowing for 256 user-programmable patch locations (organized into four banks of 64) and 128 performance memories, compared to the stock 64 patches.  A standout feature is Octal Mode, which enables eight-voice multitimbral operation with dynamic voice allocation, allowing the synthesizer to play eight different sounds simultaneously on separate MIDI channels.
The board also includes a robust 16-track MIDI sequencer with real-time and step-time recording, post-recording quantization, and a capacity of 22,000 notes (expandable to 220,000 notes on the IIFD model via disk storage).  Additional features include 32 microtonal tuning locations, a "Voyeur" MIDI monitor for viewing hexadecimal data, and advanced performance modes like 8-Way Split and FloatSplit (a floating keyboard split that follows hand movement).  The expansion also supports one-key auto-accompaniment and chording.
