For sale is a Free Modular Offset/Atten, a compact 4 HP Eurorack utility module with two fully independent channels.

It is one of those modules that does not try to steal the show, but quickly becomes indispensable once it is in the rack. Each channel lets you attenuate, invert and offset a control voltage, making it easy to get modulation signals exactly where you need them.

A typical example: patch in an LFO, reduce its modulation depth with the attenuverter, invert it if required, then use the offset control to move the whole signal into the desired voltage range. The same applies to envelopes, sequencer CV, modulation sources and plenty of other Eurorack signals.

Features

  • 2 fully independent channels
  • Attenuverter on each channel
  • Adjustable DC offset on each channel
  • Separate input and output per channel
  • Status LEDs
  • Compact 4 HP format
  • Straightforward, one-function-per-control operation
  • No menus, modes or button combinations

In short: not the flashiest module in the rack, but exactly the kind of utility you notice immediately when you do not have one available.

About this build

The module is based on the open Free Modular design.

I originally ordered the PCBs and front panels to build one for my own rack. As is often the case with PCB and panel manufacturing, ordering a single set is neither practical nor economical, so I ended up with a few surplus sets.

Rather than leaving perfectly good boards sitting in a drawer, I am gradually building those surplus sets into complete modules. It seems like the more sensible and sustainable thing to do — and hopefully they end up being useful to someone else.

This is therefore not a used module removed from my own rack, but a newly assembled module built from one of those surplus PCB/panel sets.

It has been hand-built by me and tested for proper operation before sale.

The original Free Modular shop has also been on pause for quite some time, so these modules are currently not particularly easy to obtain as completed builds.

Documentation and instructions are available online at freemodular.org.
