GUYATONE LG-50T 1960s ***RARE*** ORIGINAL GOLD FOILS

GUYATONE LG-50T 1960s ***RARE*** ORIGINAL GOLD FOILS

A mid-60s Mosrite-inspired Guyatone with the original Gold Foil pickups.

In 60s guitar boom Japan, The Ventures were enormous.

Genuine Mosrites were pretty well out of reach for most people in Japan, so to cater for the guitar boom Guyatone introduced these as 'starter' models.

This LG-50T is the companion model to the EB-1 short scale bass (see one in our other listings). Both models were introduced around 1964-5 and produced for about 3 or 4 years.

Condition-wise...

The original slim body is good - some small digs to the edges but overall, well preserved.

The mahogany neck is in beautiful condition. The fretboard is also very good.

The lower frets have some wear but they have plenty of life left and there are no intonation issues anywhere. The truss rod works fine.

The Volume knob appears to be the only non-original part. It's definitely vintage Guyatone but from another model.

Original open gear tuners, single ply tortoise pick guard, bridge and tailpiece. The tailpiece screws have been replaced at some time and the vibrato unit has been removed.

As you can see from the photos, the pickup covers have some severe tarnishing. They work great but the surface is finish is not smooth.

Three tuners have minor deformities but they all work fine. The often-absent 'G' Guyatone badge is present and correct, and the electrics work well.

These original Gold Foil pickups have a tone so far above their pay grade it's hard to credit these as starter guitars.

We tried them through a small valve combo, a 60s Japanese solid state head and even a bass amp.

Really distinctive and about as authentic vintage as it gets.

Pickups are worth the price of admission alone.

Overall...

An increasingly rare mid-60s Guyatone model in very playable condition.

Super looks, vintage mojo and sounds absolutely right.

We have no hard case for this but rest assured, our packaging is exemplary.

A Note On Shipping:

We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.

Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.

The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.

For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment

Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
