History Las Vegas HS-LVC MIJ - Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul copy from Japan 1990's with Lollar Imperials
History is a brand ran by Shimamura Gakki, one of the largest music stores in Japan. These guitars are made by renowed Japanese guitar maker Fujigen, although I've seen some online hearsay saying this particular model was made by Deviser, another solid Japanese guitar maker that makes the Bacchus and Momose guitars. I can't find any verification either way.
This early Las Vegas model is pretty rare, with the stylized History logo. History's later Les Paul models are more "inspired" by Les Paul but this one is a more accurate copy with the correct Gibson headstock and inlays (somewhat rare for a 90's Japanese Les Paul copy, since the headstock shape is what Gibson sued for in the late 70's). 1996 catalog points this model name to be HS-LVS. The guitar has been given a matching set of Lollar Imperial pickups taken from a Collings guitar. The tuner bushing, and possibly the tuners, looks like they may have been changed from their original.
At Kuroko Guitars, we do out best to clean up the instrument, set up the instrument with proper action and intonation, and ship with proper packaging. This guitar will be strung up with a new set of Ernie Ball Slinky 10's and will be ready to rock with its new owner. Please check out the detailed description below and let us know if you have any questions.
Frets
Frets are in good condition. Fret height is 1.2 - 1.3 mm (0.047 - 0.051 inches), fret width is 2.5 (0.047 inches). It looks to be about 70-80 % left from factory. Some string indentation can be seen from the first to the seventh frets, but they are hard to feel. Can benefit from a level and crowning but is very playable as is.
Neck
Rosewood fretboard, mahogany neck. Really nice neck in good condition. Has the classic Gibson open book headstock, which is not that common for a 90's era Les Paul copy.
Neck depth is 22.9 mm (0.902 inches) at first fret and 25 mm (0.984 inches) at 12th fret. Neck profile is C-like. Neck radius is 12 inches. Nut width is 42.9 mm (1.689 inches).
There looks to be some superglue repair of the finish near the bushing on the low E string.
Truss Rod and Action
Truss rod was tested and can turn both ways at least 135 degrees with no problems. Currently setup with proper relief, and no buzzing. Action is 1.75 mm on high E (0.069 inches) and 1.75 mm on low E (0.069 inches).
Body / Finish
Beautiful poly lemon/honey burst ( or "unburst" as they call it these days). Maple top, mahogany back. Measured at 9.4 lbs. There is a scuff in the finish on the back of the body towards the bottom that looks like it was filled in with superglue and smoothed out (see last picture). There are some scuffs on the headstock.
Hardware
Standard TOM bridge and tail piece made by Gotoh Japan. Tuner bushings looks like it was replaced, there appears to be marks on the finish showing that there was a larger bushing mount originally. There looks to be a superglue repair of the finish near the bushing on the E string (see second to last picture). Unknown if tuners are original but they work well.
Pickups and Electronics
Traditional Les Paul wiring with three way selector, volume and tone knob for each pickup. Has Lollar Imperial pickups from a Collings guitar. These are really nice pickups that go for 380$ for the pair on their website. They measure 7.5k ohms on the neck and 8.3k ohms on the bridge. From Lollar: The Imperial Humbucker is our take on the original 1950s P.A.F. pickup. We’ve designed the Imperial to draw from the long revered qualities of the original P.A.F.s while improving on their frequency balance and giving a slight boost to the bridge pickup’s output.
