The "D-28" is the most famous model among Martin guitars. Since its debut in 1934 as a 14-fret joint dreadnought model—a configuration that remains the standard today—it has been a beloved global icon that has stood the test of time. Its large body, from which the "D" designation is derived (named after the massive British battleship *Dreadnought*), produces a deep, rich resonance and a crisp, articulate sound. This particular instrument is the "CTM D-28 Japan Custom," a model released specifically for the Japanese market. It is a pre-owned 2003 model featuring an Engelmann spruce top. Specifications include an Engelmann spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, "Old Style" decal headstock logo, Mother-of-Pearl fingerboard dots, black pickguard, checkerboard back strip, and non-scalloped X-bracing. The tonewoods used for the top, back, and sides are all of high quality with beautiful grain patterns. It offers a pleasing tonal range that expands richly from deep, composed lows to elegant, bell-like highs. With a responsive, supple attack and excellent balance, it is a versatile instrument suitable for a wide range of playing styles—from loud strumming to delicate fingerstyle. It is also equipped with a passive under-saddle piezo pickup system. While there are some signs of use—such as a ding on the top, minor surface nicks and scuffs, and a repaired area where the binding had separated—there are no major, unsightly scratches or issues that would hinder playability; considering its age, the guitar remains in beautiful condition. The neck and body are in excellent playing condition, maintaining a comfortable, easy-to-play action. This is a rare custom version of the "D-28"—the eternal standard of acoustic guitars—and it is ready to be played and enjoyed for years to come. Includes original hard case.
