Akai Roberts 770x 1/4" reel to reel tape deck

Vintage Roberts 770X Tube Reel-to-Reel (Akai M-8) – Legendary Studio Preamps!Get the highly coveted Ampex-style analog warmth without the $3,000 price tag. Manufactured entirely by Akai in Japan, this Roberts 770X is the exact twin to the legendary Akai M-8. While it is a fantastic, fully functional tape deck, these machines are world-famous for their dual standalone tube preamp modules which deliver thick, harmonic analog saturation. This unit play forward and reverse just fine as expected but has not been testing for recording and playback. The real gem of these units are the tube powered pre amps.

Why the Preamps are Special

• Instant Analog Saturation: Run your digital tracks, vocals, or synths through the line inputs to get genuine vintage tube color. [1, 2]
• No Modifications Needed: Because this unit is in very good condition, you can use the preamps "plug-and-play" by engaging Record mode without chopping up the cabinet. [1, 2]
• Boutique Guitar/Mic Tones: Driven by premium vintage EF86 and 12AX7/12AD7 tubes, giving you the same internal preamp grit as legendary 1960s Vox amplifiers. [1]
• Modular Design: The preamp blocks are easily removable if you ever want to rack-mount them as standalone studio gear in the future. [1, 2]
