Here we have a very special Telecaster – the Fender Jimmy Page Telecaster “Dragon” from 2019.
Here is Fender’s original description:
“When the opening riff of ‘Good Times Bad Times’ first hit the radio in 1969, everything changed. In that moment, Jimmy Page laid the foundation for his own legend. He changed the course of modern music – with a single guitar: his Fender Telecaster. The Fender Jimmy Page Telecaster is our tribute to that instrument.
Originally, it featured a factory White Blonde finish. Later it became the mirrored ‘Mirror Guitar’, before eventually turning into a unique work of art – hand-painted by Page himself. Some of the most distinctive guitar riffs of the 20th century were created on this guitar.
Features
• Reproduction of the original Jimmy Page artwork with satin finish
• Two specially wound Custom Jimmy Page Telecaster single-coil pickups
• Maple neck with Custom ‘Oval C’ profile; slab rosewood fingerboard with 7.25" radius
• Top-loader bridge with threaded steel saddles
• Includes vintage-style hardshell case”
This one is something very special – and it has genuinely hardly been played and is in excellent condition.
Visually, it is of course a real eye-catcher, especially in combination with the reflective pickguard. The famous Dragon motif is printed beneath the finish, making the guitar instantly recognisable.
Over time, the nitro-finished neck has developed natural fine ageing cracks in the lacquer. Normally, something like this costs a lot extra at the Fender Custom Shop (-: We do think, however, that in this case it happened unintentionally. We like it – it looks cool and gives the neck some extra vintage character. We have tried to show the lacquer cracks as clearly as possible in the photos.
The neck is also finished in nitro and, with its Jimmy Page Custom “Oval C” profile, feels excellent in the hand. It is neither particularly thin nor particularly chunky and is very comfortable to play.
The frets showed virtually no signs of wear. We nevertheless levelled, recrowned and polished them because the factory fretwork was not particularly good. Afterwards, the guitar received a complete setup. Now this thing is definitely not just something for the display case.
Tonally, it is equally special thanks to its specially wound Jimmy Page Custom Tele single coils. It really does sound excellent – and at least to us, the spirit of Led Zeppelin is clearly present.
A collector’s piece that is actually far too good to be merely collected. This Tele wants to be played.
