☆Vintage 1960s NHK Aiwa VM-18 / RU1-3 Studio Ribbon Microphone - Japan's RCA BK5 BK-5B BK-5A Clone
Up for sale is a stunning ribbon microphone made in the 1960s crafted by Aiwa, modeled after the RCA BK5. The VM-18 stands out for its reputation as a more natural-sounding counterpart to the BK5, offering a sonic character that many will appreciate. This specific VM-18 was made for NHK so it bears the "RU1-3" model instead and as a result it has some higher spec components internally. If you were not aware, NHK is a national broadcaster in Japan and as a result they demanded more quality.
If you have experience with this microphone, it is an improvement over the original BK5 sound wise and the build quality is just as good! Cosmetically, you'll find quite a bit of wear, it was certainly well used but it still excels performance wise. Additionally, the screen in the front is in great shape and it ships with a RCA stand adapter.
If you've wanted a quality microphone that also has a ton of history being used by NHK in Japan, look no further!
