Gibson Banner Era Southern Jumbo with Original Case (see photos). 1944. Ordered by wartime soldier in 1943 and delivered in 44/45 after returning home. I am the third owner. Factory Order Number 2965 stamped on the poplar neck block.
All the characteristics, vibe, tone, workmanship of the wartime models.
4 piece Adirondack spruce top. You can see the 'wings' in the corners of the lower bout and burst.
Mahogany back and sides. This set has a really wonderful red/brown hue and some subtle run-out. Really looks fantastic.
The 5 piece Maple/Mahogany Neck.... with truss rod!
Original Brazilian bridge. I do believe the previous owner had a neck reset and refret around 2005-ish. The frets are like new and correct.
Bone nut, saddle and bridge pins. The original bone nut and saddle from the re-fret are on hand. The original white plastic bridge pins are on hand. Both bone and the plastic sound good, but different.
There is a military pocket knife and bottle cap opener from the original owner as well as a number of various unused strings likely from the 60's. Kinda cool historical novelty and remnants to the first owner of this Kalamazoo Gal beauty.
There are sealed and stable hairline cracks on the right side upper bout and on the right side mid bout. See photos. The ones on the mid side bout are harder to see in the photos. The cracks are stable and a non-issue whatsoever. Likely addressed at the same time of the re-fret and neck reset. Nothing else anywhere.
The instrument was played. The original owner was a polka bandleader and wore cufflinks on his shirt which explain the bulk of the markings on the top other than playwear. All the marks are typical and evident of the guitars use as a working instrument. Largely unused and stored since the early 70's. I have played it often, but at home and no gigs or other. A guitar of this caliber and vintage was a once in a lifetime experience for me.
The case is an original hardshell. The case top will slip out of the back hinges when opening. Nothing broken, just the way they are (not the best original design). The case latches up just fine and safely carries and protects the guitar. Its got the real thing historic/vintage no ambiguity about it look when you pull it out, before you even get to the guitar.
The photos are all current and accurately reflect the condition of the SJ Banner.

Honestly there is just not much of anything to investigate, research, or worry. This is an excellent Kalamazoo instrument of the famous Gibson Banner era. It's the real thing in, out, back, forward anyway you look at it. It stuns in presentation, tone, history. It commands the ear and attention of those in the room when played (...things quiet down and heads turn).
There is usually a reason, if an older instrument has been played and used. This one reflects that and sounds, feels, vibes...just has it all in spades.
I cobbled up a short video recorded with just my iphone in the room. So, pretty basic and raw w/o any super quality studio mics or effects etc.
Thanks for the consideration!
