Up for sale is the legendary Meridian 602 CD Transport, an absolute classic of British high-end digital engineering designed by Allen Boothroyd and Bob Stuart. Renowned for its dual-enclosure chassis, glass front panels, and ultra-low jitter dual-clock architecture, the 602 remains one of the most musically detailed CD transports ever built. Still uses the original Philips CDM mechanism
Cosmetic Condition:
Cosmetically, this unit is in outstanding, collector-grade condition. The glass faceplates are deep, clear, and crack-free, with sharp panel graphics and pristine black anodized aluminum casing. It has been meticulously cared for in a smoke-free, climate-controlled environment. Please review the high-resolution photos to appreciate the condition.
Operational Status:
The unit powers on and plays CDs, delivering the pristine audio output Meridian is famous for. However, it is being sold AS-IS / FOR REPAIR or SERVICE due to intermittent startup behavior:
Upon cold boot the tray will open OR close but wont do both without a quick restart. once the disc is loaded however it reads and plays. I suspect its either tray door/power supply or drive belt related and should be repairable from any tech.
Once it initializes and begins playback, it operates and tracks. If left on I have had no continued issues with boot/CD changing until later turned off.
This is typical for vintage 600-series units and usually points to aging power supply filter capacitors or a weak drawer belt/laser mechanism needing routine maintenance/re-capping.
Because of the intermittent startup, it is priced accordingly for a technician, audiophile restorer, or collector looking for an cosmetically clean chassis to service.
