1980s Sony C-536P side address, small diaphragm condenser microphone, made in Japan.
The C-536P is the side address counterpart to the legendary Sony C-535P, sharing the same capsule design, Cardiod polar pattern and sonic character in a unique and much rarer format.
One of Sony’s hidden gems, it has an unusually smooth character for a small diaphragm condenser, with a natural top end that rolls off gently.
The C-535P became especially well known after winning Tape Op’s famous 44 microphone blind shootout against several far more expensive classics, including the Neumann KM84.
This particular C-536P is in excellent working condition and has a beautifully preserved original finish and clean grille.
The pad switch functions properly, the original green alignment triangle is fully intact, and serial number 2944 is clearly marked at the XLR base.
Includes the original Sony microphone clip as pictured.
