I'm not sure why Reverb removed "Mint" from its list of condition descriptors, but I can take a guess and understand why it may have come time. However, this guitar is about as "Mint" as "Mint" gets and there is no better word to describe it.
Sixteen years (IMO, if well cared for, a guitar is just getting into its prime at 16) and nary a scratch. There wasn't a fingerprint on it when I purchased the guitar. I am its second owner and neither of us put any playtime into the guitar. It's been resting in its case under climate controlled conditions for 99% of its life. I think we both felt that it was too beautiful to play and we had other guitars to keep us satisfied and happy!
You can see for yourself in the twenty-four photos taken for the express purpose of selling a guitar. Just about every angle and aspect of the guitar is shown with key photos showing string height, neck angle, the condition of the neck joint, the fretboard and perfect frets, pics of the relationship between the bridge and saddle height, neck angle and headstock condition, the mint, top-of-the-line Taylor case and a number of just plain pretty shots.
I have loaded the basic specs for the guitar. They can be found in the last photograph. Used pricing is between $2,099 and $2,399, with a mint condition example pushing the upper limit. The 2011 GS-6 Maple Honeyburst was priced in the sweet spot and was considered a higher-end model in the GS-6 Series. The GS-8 sat just a bit higher. The entire GS line was retired sometime after 2012, but this is good news because they are now considered well worth owning and are collectable. Taylor's new "Super Auditorium" bears a striking resemblance as the two designs have very similar dimensions. "What's old is new again!".
The guitar has a beautifully finished sitka top and highly-figured (flamed maple) back and sides. It was from the GS-6 line which was to have been their more basic examples but I'm not sure anyone would view this version as "Basic". The GS-Series was in production from 2006 through 2011. This one's a 2011, so it is among the most recent GS's to come off the line.
A Word About Size (information that others may find helpful):
I found this guitar while I was a looking for a nice small jumbo of the kind that many of the boutiques are building and have been building for years. The majors have been slow to catch on because they've used their own sizing nomenclature which didn't include a small jumbo per se, but Martin's famed but discontinued M-36 is, in fact, a small jumbo, as is Gibson's venerated J-185. Martin's 0000 is a small jumbo, but is nowhere in the standard lineup and is available only as a Martin Custom Shop option.
I came across the GS and thought it was the ideal sized and shaped guitar for someone that mostly plays dreadnoughts and is looking for a slightly more comfortable guitar to play in the seated position...whether it's from the couch or seated in their studios or guitar rooms. The size works exceptionally well for me, but it is not a small-bodied guitar.
If playing comfort has eroded the urge to have nothing but dreadnoughts, round or square shouldered, and has increased your desire to have a few slightly smaller and easier playing guitars around, the GS (very similar to today's Taylor Super Auditorium) is worth a good look. Taylor GS-series is a wonderful alternative, as well as coming in at a greatly reduced price simply because few people are aware the guitar is out there and you can still pick one up. This won't be true for long because what's remaining today will likely be gone tomorrow!
Please look at the photos carefully. I took careful time to take them, but if you need to see anything else, I'll get it to you. The same applies to questions you might have. I generally respond same day but almost always within 24 hours.
I am not in a position where I can offer returns, so please ask any and all questions before hitting the "Buy" button. Be sure. I've been doing this for sixteen years without a hiccup - some here on Reverb and enough to have received some stellar reviews. Please read them and it will give you a "feel" for the level of service my little shop provides.
As always, the guitar will be packaged to a high standard and shipped via UPS, which has a typical delivery window of five days. I've seen everything from a day or two sooner to a one-time occurrance of six days. I typically ship within 24 hours after funds have been received by my bank. You will receive a tracking number as soon as I obtain one.
Whether buying or selling, I wait until a guitar has been delivered and received before I submit a review of my buying or selling experience.
Reasonable offers will be considered. Offers well below the asking price will not.
Some of you may recognize the guitar from when I had it listed for a brief period a few weeks ago. I ended the listing immediately after realizing that I'd made a pricing error.
As you can probably tell, I enjoy writing about some of the guitars I've owned. There is often some sort of backstory to the guitars I choose, so they're more than just guitars to me. With that in mind, you can trust that I've taken exceptionally good care of each of them while under "My Watch".
I hope you enjoyed checking out the listing.
