1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom – Tobacco Sunburst w/ OHSC
For sale is a stunning 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom in a classic Tobacco Sunburst finish. Based on a serial number search, this guitar has a production date of July 23rd, 1979. This has been a dedicated bedroom guitar for seemingly its entire life, and its fantastic condition reflects that limited wear. It plays and sounds honestly even better than I expected, features a tight neck joint, and at 9 lbs 13 oz, it sits at a highly desirable weight for a late-70s Custom.
Specifications & Measurements
Weight: 9 lbs 13 oz
Fretboard: Ebony
Neck Profile: Medium "C"
Bridge Pickup: 7.64k ohms
Neck Pickup: 7.51k ohms
Neck & Fret Life: Exceptional. There is almost no fret wear, and the back of the neck shows zero play wear.
Hardware & Electronics To my knowledge and visual inspection, all electronics are original to the guitar. The only suspected replacement part is the bridge pickup volume knob. It is the correct, matching style, but the numbering shows a lack of aging compared to the original knobs. The original hardware has developed a natural patina over the decades. I have chosen to leave it in as-is condition so the new owner can decide whether to polish it back to a brighter shine or let it continue to age naturally.
Condition & Cosmetic Flaws The guitar is in fantastic overall condition but has a few minor cosmetic blemishes commensurate with its age. Please review all photos carefully.
There is a finish separation check between the wood and the binding on the headstock around the B string tuner (shown in photo).
A similar finish check is present near the nut on the high E string side (shown in photo).
There are a few inches of similar finish check on the top near the rear strap button (shown in photo).
There is a small nick in the finish on the back of the body (shown in photo).
The neck pickup tone knob functions properly but has approximately 1/16 of an inch of lateral play.
There are a few other very small discolorations on the guitar such as a tiny black dot on the top, two similar on the neck along with a very small red spot on the neck, and minor discoloration in a couple small areas on the binding.
What is Included
Original Hardshell Case (OHSC): The case is in fantastic shape overall, with just a bit of normal scuffing and wear toward the headstock end.
