Greco S-55 (1976) — Gibson ES-175 Style Hollow Body | Made in Japan, Golden Era | Excellent w/ Case

The Greco S-55 is one of Japan's most respected tributes to the Gibson ES-175, built during the celebrated "golden era" of Japanese guitar making in the mid-1970s. This example dates to 1976, a period now sought after for craftsmanship that often rivaled — and in the eyes of many players, matched — the American originals these instruments were modeled after.

Produced in Japan during the so-called "lawsuit era," the S-55 sits at the top tier of Greco's ES-175 line. It's a fully hollow archtop jazz guitar. All faithful to the classic ES-175 formula. Tone comes from a pair of Maxon U-1000 PAF-style humbuckers, warm and articulate with the woody midrange and smooth top end that make these guitars a favorite among jazz and archtop players. Controls are the traditional 3-way toggle with two volumes and two tones.

Instruments of this quality and vintage are becoming genuinely hard to find in clean, original condition — and this one is a special opportunity.

Condition — Excellent (with case)

The guitar is in excellent overall condition and presents beautifully. There are only a few very minor, barely noticeable dents and scratches; the body as a whole remains exceptionally clean for its age (Please don't forget to check youtube video of this actual guitar). All electronics function perfectly and completely noise-free. The truss rod and tuners all operate smoothly and correctly. The neck is very nearly dead straight, and playability is at its best — this is a genuinely comfortable, ready-to-play instrument.

The frets and nut remain original, preserving the character and integrity of this vintage piece. For a guitar of this era, finding an example this well-preserved and this original is a rare and valuable chance.
