Gibson Explorer III 1984-1985 - Ebony
Gibson Explorer III from the mid-'80s. Purchased locally about two years ago from the second owner (for the previous ~35 years), who told me the story of the headstock break and repair. I had the guitar professionally re-fretted with my preferred jumbo frets (same as a USA Jackson), and these frets have maybe a dozen hours of play time on them. I bought this guitar to try P-90 pickups, but it turns out I just can't quit humbuckers, so I'll keep my first Explorer with its 500T in the bridge.
This guitar has plenty of finish flaws, but is completely mechanically sound. The neck joint is solid, as well as the headstock repair. None of the chips in the finish on the back of the neck are where my thumb slides, so I don't feel them. Electronics are original. Bridge has been replaced with a TonePros as the original had bowed over the years. I replaced the control knobs but will include the old ones. This is a great playing guitar, but if I were to keep it I would be too tempted to replace the P-90 at the bridge with a humbucker, and that would be a shame, I think.
Will ship in the included explorer-shaped SKB hard case.
