The Modal Electronics Argon8X is the 61-key version of Modal's 8-voice wavetable synthesizer, with a five-octave FATAR TP/9S keybed for two-handed playing. It runs the same engine as the Argon8: four wavetable oscillators per voice, 180 morphing wavetables, eight filter types and a 12-slot modulation matrix. The keys respond to velocity and channel aftertouch, MPE controllers are supported, and the free MODALapp editor covers every parameter on a computer, mobile device or inside your DAW.
Wavetables and Filters
Wavetables come in 36 banks of five waveforms that morph from one to the next, with a PWM bank and three noise and modulation banks on oscillator 2. Thirty-two modifiers, including de-rez, wave folding, phase shaping and rectify, change the shape of any table, and eight oscillator modifiers add FM, ring mod, amp mod and sync. The filter section offers eight morphing types, from 2-pole state variable filters to a 4-pole ladder with drive and a Sallen-Key design.
Sequencer and Performance
A 512-note real-time sequencer records four lanes of parameter animation alongside the notes, and the step sequencer holds 64 steps with up to eight notes per step. The 32-step arpeggiator, Chord Hold, inversions and a four-axis joystick suit live playing. Two units can be poly-chained for 16 voices and 64 oscillators.
