It is highly prized by collectors for its thick, "throaty" analog tone and its responsive behavior to a player's picking dynamics. Key Identification Features (1979 Model)"Touch Wah" Name: Units produced in 1978 and 1979 were labeled with the full "Touch Wah" name. Later versions (1980–1987) were shortened to "T Wah".Silver Screw: 1979 models typically feature a silver thumb screw to secure the battery compartment, a hallmark of early Boss production before the switch to black plastic screws around 1980.Toggle Switch: Along with the CS-1 Compressor, the TW-1 is one of the only Boss compact pedals to feature a metal toggle switch rather than just knobs. Controls and FunctionalitySens (Sensitivity): Adjusts how the effect responds to your playing. Turning it clockwise makes the wah trigger more easily with lighter picking.Peak: Controls the depth and tonal "color" of the filter. Clockwise increases the intensity of the "quack," while counterclockwise provides a shallower effect.Drive (Up/Down) Switch: Determines the direction of the frequency sweep.Up: The sound shifts from hard to mellow as you pick harder.Down: The sound shifts from mellow to hard, creating a "reverse" wah effect. Technical SpecificationsCircuitry: Features an analog circuit with a photocoupler (similar to the early CS-1), which contributes to its unique, fluid response and warm musicality.Power: Originally designed for the Boss ACA-120 adapter (unregulated 12V DC). Using a modern 9V regulated power supply may result in a dim LED and weaker effect unless it is daisy-chained with other pedals or powered by a vintage-style 12V output.
