The Altec Lansing 9440A is a high-performance, dual-channel power amplifier designed for demanding professional sound reinforcement, studio monitoring, and high-fidelity audio applications. Built during the golden era of American professional audio engineering, the 9440A combines substantial output power, excellent audio specifications, and rugged construction.

Delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms, the 9440A provides ample power for driving demanding loudspeaker systems. Typical output exceeds 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 450 watts into 4 ohms. For applications requiring even greater power, the amplifier can operate in bridged mono mode, delivering more than 800 watts into an 8-ohm load.

Its direct-coupled, transformerless output design ensures accurate signal reproduction, with a frequency response of ±0.25 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and total harmonic distortion below 0.25% at rated stereo output. A signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 100 dB contributes to clean, detailed reproduction across a wide dynamic range.

Engineered for continuous professional operation, the 9440A features heavy-duty output transistors, substantial aluminium heatsinks, and comprehensive protection circuitry. Its active protection system safeguards the output stage against excessive operating conditions, while selectable power limiting and output relay protection enhance reliability.

The distinctive front panel features two illuminated VU meters with selectable sensitivity ranges, individual channel level controls, and operating mode selection. The amplifier also supports optional plug-in input transformers for balanced operation.

Housed in a robust 4U rackmount chassis, the Altec Lansing 9440A represents classic American professional amplifier design: powerful, durable, and engineered for reliable performance.
