1956 VEGA VOX NO.3 TENOR BANJO

A rare instrument for exceptional players: This Vega Vox tenor banjo, unfortunately no longer in pristine condition, dates from 1956; the serial number 99366 is stamped on the dowel stick and the inside of the body. It is a survivor of the postwar era and has been through quite a bit.

Length 87.5 cm, scale length 58 cm, nut width 29 mm, head diameter 11"

The banjo plays and sounds very well—perfect for jazz and swing. It is strung in CGDA. In addition to the usual signs of age and wear, the instrument has undergone some modifications: the original tuners have been replaced with modern planetary tuners. The tailpiece mounting has been replaced. Rhinestones have been glued onto the tension screws of the flange. The resonator has been patched in places along the edge; one open spot would need to be restored. The “decoration” on the back of the resonator does not appear to be original. At least, I haven’t seen it like that before.

Otherwise, the instrument is a beautiful piece of banjo history with a great sound! The banjo comes in a period-appropriate hard case.
