Blackie is Eric Clapton's favorite Stratocaster, and it is, of course, one of the most recognizable electric guitars of all time. Clapton played his Blackie from 1970 to 1985, and you can now follow in his footsteps with this Custom Shop Clapton Stratocaster!
This Stratocaster was built in 2009 by Master Builder Stephen Stern, naturally also known for his fantastic Gretsches. For this Blackie, Stern has conjured up all the familiar features; the black-finished alder body has a white pickguard with three Noiseless pickups, which are controlled by a volume, tone, and mid-boost knob. The distinctive light maple neck, based on Blackie's original from 1957, has a comfortable V-profile. Stern did take the liberty of adding an extra fret, however, as this neck has 22 frets instead of the 21 of the original.
The guitar has light signs of wear on the body; Small scratches on the front, along with some light buckle wear on the back. The neck has some slightly shiny spots, but the frets will last for years without any issues! A wonderful guitar that lets the blues flow almost effortlessly!
This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
