ADK Custom Shop CLA-1 compressor/limiter

For sale is this mint ADK Custom Shop CLA-1 optical compressor/limiter.

The unit is in excellent operational and cosmetic condition.

Designed by Jon Erickson (designer of A-Designs Pacifica, Folcrom etc).

Inspired by the classic LA2A and LA3A optical compressor/limiter designs.

This box adds smoothness, heft, and musical movement to any source.

Jon Erickson here. I designed this box for ADK. We just completed the first run. The name is now "CLA-1" The pic was of a prototype I built about a year ago. Been A LOT of tweaking since then. Here are some highlights:

Electroluminescent opto unit for gain control. Program dependent.

The amplifier is a 990/2520 footprint plug-in modules that can be swapped for other compatible opamps.

Hard, relay bypass. Bypass kicks the input straight to the output xlr and bypasses the entire circuit.

Cinemag Input and Output transformers.

Up to 30db of gain reduction.

25db of makeup gain. Works great as a "flavoring" amplifier with no gain reduction thanks to the discrete opamp and iron.

"Bass Pass" swicth which puts a HP filter in the sidechain. This keeps the high energy low frequencies from taking over control of the compressor. Great for bass heavy material.

Gain reduction and Output level control metering.

Comp/Limit switch.

Power Supply with Toroidal transformer and localized regulation. Very flexible design for less than ideal mains voltage.

Parts quality is very high. ADK has been giving me carte blanche in terms of using good parts and materials. All built here in Southern California.

It's had about 5 hours use on a single project, otherwise stored in a sealed locker in a smoke-free environment.

Runs on 115v and 230v, see back panel which states: "line voltage selected internally by qualified technician". It is currently set to 230v.
