Gibson introduced the P90 in 1946, and for the next decade it was the pickup behind nearly every Gibson electric. The dog ear version, named for the mounting ears molded into its cover, let Gibson top-mount the P90 on archtops like the ES-125 and ES-175 and on the slab-bodied Les Paul Junior. Even after the PAF humbucker took over Gibson's flagship models in 1957, the dog ear P90 kept its place as the sound of rock 'n roll. The Seymour Duncan Antiquity Retrospec'd P90 Dog Ear Bridge pickup recaptures the bridge tone of a late 50s ES-330 with all the loose vibe and harmonic bite of the original, in an unaged black cover. The Retrospec'd series came about when builders and players asked for Antiquity tone without the worn look. Duncan builds it the same way as the aged Antiquity, with a hand-fabricated bobbin, plain enamel magnet wire, flatback tape, and two specially calibrated alnico 2 bar magnets, then leaves the cover clean and new. Chords have a gritty, honky midrange, single notes stay articulate without turning harsh, and rolling back the volume knob brings out a sweet, glassy clean. It is a true drop-in for any standard Gibson-sized dog ear route, making it a natural upgrade for a Les Paul Junior, ES-330, ES-125, Epiphone Casino, or any dog ear P90 guitar. Pair it with the Antiquity P90 Dog Ear neck, which is reverse wound and reverse polarity, for a hum-cancelling middle position. In the words of Seymour Duncan...
