The Roland Boutique Designer Series features a handful of vintage-inspired units built in collaboration with Studio Electronic in 2016. This series takes old sounds from famous vintage Roland synthesizers like the Jupiter-8 and the Juno-106 and presents them them in more modern and compact units, allowing for easier control and editing.
Using "Analog Circuit Behavior" Technology (ACB), these synths get their authentically vintage sound by recreating the specifications of the original analog circuits. Each item in this series can easily be powered by USB or batteries and can be paired with the K25m keyboard controller.
For synth players looking to recreate the vintage sounds of their dreams without breaking the bank, the Roland Boutique Designer Series Presents a multitude of fun and musical options.
Polyphonic Synthesizers
Faithful recreations of some of the most revered polyphonic synths in music history.
The JP-08 Sound Module recreates the analog vintage sounds of the Jupiter-8, one of Roland's most acclaimed
instruments. It offers 36 of the original controls found on the Jupiter-8, further expanding with additional LFOs, an expanded VCO range, and dual ribbon controllers. It also features an onboard 16-step sequencer. Although featuring a smaller range than the original Jupiter-8 synth, the JP-08 is designed with "chain-mode," which allows for two units to work together for an 8-voice polyphonic sound.
The JU-06 Sound Module is a recreation of another iconic Roland keyboard: the Juno-106, often regarded as one of the last great synthesizers of the analog era. The JU-06 takes this legendary instrument and expands it even further. It's a 4-voice synth featuring 23 parameters along with the fantastic chorus from the original Jupiter-106. This update contains a faster LFO and a continuously variable high-pass filter.
The JX-03 Sound Module replicates the ever-popular, button control-based JX-3P synth and sees many of the same great features found in the original. The JX-03, like the original, is highly programmable in addition to featuring many of the fantastic presets from the original. Some of the additional features found in the JX-03 are: new waveforms, an expanded DCO range, and cross modulation options. The unit can also be paired with the PG-200 controller adding 24 rotary knobs.
The D-05 Linear Synthesizer is based on one of the most famous synthesizers of the 1980s, used by famous musicians from Miles Davis to Prince. Released in 1987, the D-50 features a blend of sampled and synthesized sounds, with built-in effects like chorus, reverb, and EQ. The D-05 features all of the original presets along with some excellent new ones and features a 64-step polyphonic sequencer and arpeggiator. The unit is also compatible with all of the original D-50 patches.
The SH-01A Synthesizer recreates one of the most popular bass synthesizers of all time, the SH-101. The SH-01A expands on the original monophonic synthesizer by adding a 4-voice polyphonic mode. The synth module also features a 64-note sequencer and arpeggiator, selectable advanced LFO, and 64 programmable preset patches.
