The Fender Player Lead II in Neon Green is a modern reissue of the original late-1970s Lead series, built as a solid-body offset electric guitar with a double-cutaway poplar body and a high-visibility gloss finish. It uses a bolt-on maple neck with a modern "C" profile, a 25.5-inch scale length, and a 9.5-inch radius fingerboard with medium-jumbo frets, designed for contemporary playability and stable tuning performance.
The hardware includes a fixed hardtail string-through-body bridge, sealed tuning machines, and a simplified control layout that reflects the original Lead II concept of straightforward operation and reliability. The body shape is slightly offset with sharper contours compared to a Stratocaster, giving it a distinct ergonomic feel and balanced weight distribution.
The electronics consist of two Fender-designed single-coil pickups with a three-way selector switch and a single volume and tone control set. The switching system provides neck, bridge, and combined parallel tones, delivering a mix of bright cutting articulation and thicker blended sounds, with a focus on clarity and directness rather than complex switching systems.
