Video: Cole Clark Fat Lady 2 Pickup System Demo

Cole Clark has been making killer acoustics for the past few years, matching unique woods native to Australia with state–of–the–art pickup systems. The Fat Lady 2 is a new series from the Victoria–based company with sparse good looks and a strikingly organic amplified sound.

The Fat Lady 2 that Joe plays in the video is all Australian blackwood on the outside (plus a Queensland maple neck) with Cole Clark’s intricate three–way pickup system on the inside.

The system uses three specific means of picking up sound: a piezo placed at the bridge to capture bass, a face sensor for picking up midrange, and a condenser microphone for the highs. The contour of these individual elements can be controlled with the EQ on the side of the guitar, with the levels of the mic and face sensor system adjustable as well.

As the company told us, this three–way pickup system focuses on picking up the sound of the body rather than the strings, like most systems do. It has also been designed to exclude frequencies that typically result in feedback.

The amplified sound of its instruments is the most important piece of the puzzle, according to the company. They told us, "All the different elements that we use in building our guitars are done to enhance the plugged–in tone of our guitars."
