For sale is my Marshall Master Model MKII 2204 50-watt head. The amp appears to date between '76 and '78. The amp has some natural wear and replaced parts, which is to be expected for an amp that is 50 years old. It came to me modded, like many old Marshalls often do. I had a local tech go through it, remove the mods, and convert it to late-70s, cascaded preamp, 2204 spec, & correctly bias the circuit for the tubes, etc. It now performs very well and sounds like a proper 2204 again (check out the iPhone video clip). It works great without issue. Some interesting things of note: • It has all the original iron: Radiospares power transformer: code 1202 164 (dates 1976) also has code 5-78 stamped on it (dates 1978?), Drake output transformer: code 784 139 & a Drake choke: code T100 1471-263. • Original Daly filter caps which measure within spec according to the tech. • The mid and presence pots have been replaced with modern-day pots of correct value and taper for the circuit. There is also a replaced chassis mounting screw. • Some resistors, caps & wires have been replaced in the preamp section of the board, and a resistor was added to the bias circuit, but they're all at the proper value for a late 70s spec 2204. • The factory attached power cable was replaced with a modern IEC socket & cable (a plus in my book). • An interested potential buyer pointed out that plastic corners aren't common in '76, but according to the Collecting Loud History book, you do see some plastic corners on some amps and cabs in '76. The power and transformer codes date somewhere between '76 and '78. I would date the head cab around that same time. • The 9" script logo is a modern replacement that I aged to look period correct. • The stock value 1000pF bright cap is installed on the preamp volume, so it has all the kerang a late 70s Marshall 2204 should have. • The screen printing on the control panel is pretty worn, but you can still read the labels up close. • Correct fuses are installed in the amp. The buyer will receive the amp head, IEC cable, expertly packed and shipped by me. I will ship anywhere in the CONUS.
