"Rave On" over this very cool Buddy Holly J-45 tribute guitar. In the mid 1950's Buddy Holly was inspired by Elvis, not only his music, but also his leather guitar cover. Buddy went down to Tandy leather in Lubbock, Tx. and bought the leather, went home, and hand tooled his original cover for his 1943 Gibson J-45.
That Guitar sold in 2011 at a Christie's auction for a cool $1.25 million!!
Inspired by this story, avid Holly fan Don Grimes, commissioned a Lubbock, Tx. leather crafter to re-create Holly's J-45 as a tribute. The leather was again purchased from Tandy leather in Lubbock, and this amazing piece was painstakingly recreated just as the original.
I recently acquired this sweet guitar on a trip through Texas, and I'm now offering up for some lucky super fan to have as their very own.
Included in this sale is the guitar Epiphone AJ-100VS, the custom hand tooled leather strap made by the same crafter, and the Gibson J-45 case just as I bought it.
The guitar is not perfect, but I have cleaned it up, replaced the strings with Dean Markley med lights, and it plays very well with the exception of a slight lower E string buzz. However, I see this more as the centerpiece wall hanger for the Buddy Holly "Super Fan."
International buyers need to contact me prior to final purchase to solidify shipping price. Price quoted is only an estimate. This guitar qualifies for the CITES export regulations and I have the export certificate($75 government fee) in hand and the guitar is ready for immediate shipment...no 8 week wait!!!
